Influencer vs Creator: What’s the Difference? (Talking Influence)
Sometimes, it seems like marketers have their own dictionary—from acronyms to hyphenated words, each have their own distinct meaning. It can be tempting to use synonyms to avoid repetition, but some commonly conflated terms have important differences. According to Mary Keane-Dawson, the words “influencer” and “creator” are often used interchangeably, but the difference lies in the verbiage itself. While the first term refers to a traditional influencer, a “content creator” is an influencer with a particular skill or craft (such as art, cooking, filmography, etc.) who often puts extra time into delivering high-quality original creative content. Many brands are increasingly seeking out opportunities to work with these creators (often micro-influencers) to add an artistic touch to their influencer campaigns and connect with their audience’s creative side.
