Influencer marketing news moves at the speed of social media. Every platform update, algorithm tweak, and current event makes a huge difference to the influencer marketer. We’ll help you keep up.

Platform News:

As social platforms, brands and users look to build stronger communities, we've seen the release of features like Close Friends, Instagram Group Chats/Threads, and the rise of Facebook Groups. Now, Instagram has rolled out Group Stories - similar to Facebook's Group Stories - where users can collaborate on a private Story together. Prediction: this will migrate to the Branded Content tool, allowing brands to collaborate with influencers.

Instagram is adding a new camera option to it's Stories catalogue. 'Poses' will help users create stop-motion style clips out of multiple images (similar to photo booths). Given the focus on meme creation for many social platforms, it will be interesting to see if users will be able to upload to 'Poses' to make GIF-like content. As we all know, camera-phone users often take multiple pictures of the same thing -- good on Instagram for taking advantage of a consumer behavior and turning into an organic benefit. This should resonate with influencers, as stop-motion has been a tried and true style for years especially amongst former Vine stars like Meagan Cignoli and Jethro Ames.

Influencer Marketing News:

Influencers over the years have vocalized the extreme pressure they feel to create content at scale, but maintain authenticity and connect with their audience in a meaningful way. With so much riding on their public personas, influencers are coming to grips with how their time in the spotlight online is impact them while they're not. This was discussed on the Julius Profile podcast, where we talked with Dr. Ayelet Boussi and Lina Renzina of the Ad Ad Council about the effect of influencer & social marketing on mental health.

Empathy Week:

Earlier this month Social Media Week hosted Empathy Week, inviting partners, industry leaders, and teens to join a series of discussion about social media's impact on empathy and mental health. In the same vein, Julius is donating to The Jed Foundation to help protect the mental health of teens. To find out more, check out this blog post.
